Free museums in Dallas–Fort Worth

According to each museum:

• General admission to the Dallas Museum of Art is free; special exhibitions are ticketed.
• The Crow Museum of Asian Art is always free, at both its Arts District and UT Dallas locations.
• The Amon Carter Museum of American Art and the Sid Richardson Museum are always free.
• The African American Museum in Fair Park is free, except for tour groups of more than 10.
• Dallas Contemporary is free, with a $10 suggested donation; book your visit ahead.
• The five galleries at Irving Arts Center are free to view.
• Free days: the Nasher Sculpture Center on the first Saturday of each month, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth on Fridays and the Meadows Museum on Thursdays after 5 p.m.

West End, SMU and Love Field

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

The museum, at 411 Elm Street, has paid parking in lots next door, with prices that vary by lot, and no space for oversized vehicles or buses. It is three blocks west of DART’s West End Station, which connects to every DART rail line, and five blocks north of Union Station for the TRE to Fort Worth.

Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum

At 300 North Houston Street, the museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Tuesday. Adult admission is $19, and the museum recommends visitors be at least 12. Parking is in the covered garage directly across the street at 301 North Houston Street, paid by QR code or the ParkMobile app.

Meadows Museum and the George W. Bush Presidential Library

On the SMU campus, the Meadows Museum at 5900 Bishop Boulevard has free parking in the garage beneath it, entered at Bishop and Schlegel through the lane marked Meadows Museum Parking Only; admission is $12 for adults and free on Thursdays after 5 p.m. The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, at 2943 SMU Boulevard, charges $10 for the first 4 hours in the Bush Center lot across from its entrance, plus $1 for each extra 30 minutes, card only, and DART’s SMU Express bus from SMU/Mockingbird Station stops at its entrance.

Frontiers of Flight Museum

At 6911 Lemmon Avenue, about 2 miles from Love Field’s terminal, this aviation and space museum has free parking and is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Adult admission is $20.

The Fort Worth Cultural District

Kimbell Art Museum parking

The Kimbell says parking is free in its underground garage, its Kahn Building parking and the Kimbell East lot. The Modern is a short walk away.

Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

At 3200 Darnell Street, the Modern charges $16 for adults, with free admission on Fridays, half-price tickets on Sundays and free entry for anyone under 18. Parking is free in the museum lots, and on Friday evenings and weekends also in the UNT Health Science Center garage and lots across Camp Bowie Boulevard; the Will Rogers Memorial Center lot and garage are paid.

Amon Carter Museum of American Art

Admission is always free at the Amon Carter, at 3501 Camp Bowie Boulevard, with free parking in its lot on Camp Bowie and, on weekends, in the UNT Health Science Center lot.

Science and History, and the Cowgirl Museum

The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, at 1600 Gendy Street, charges $16 for adults, and its visitors use the Western Heritage Garage at $6 for up to 2 hours, $12 for up to 3 hours and $15 beyond that, with different rates on special event days. The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, at 1720 Gendy Street, charges $10 for adults, with parking at $6 for up to 2 hours, $12 after 2 hours and $15 after 3 hours. Sid Richardson Museum

Downtown in Sundance Square, at 309 Main Street, the Sid Richardson Museum is always free. It validates 3 hours of free parking in City Center Garage I, at 201 Commerce Street, and City Center Garage II, in the 400 block of Calhoun Street, and valet is $7 for the first 30 minutes or $21 beyond 1½ hours.
